"The Price of Stolen Time" Chapter 11

Julian couldn't suppress his excitement, struggling to get up.

"Where abroad is she? Give me the address; I'm going to find her now."

"Mr. Julian, you cannot move." The assistant hurriedly stopped him. "Because of the violent impact of the car accident, you broke three ribs, and there is still uncleared blood in your brain. You need to stay in bed and rest; you can't go anywhere!"

"Let go of me!" Julian tried to push him away with force, but the violent movement caused his vision to blacken, and a tearing pain erupted in his chest, forcing him to hunch over.

Seeing this, the assistant’s face changed, and he rushed to call the doctor, only to be stopped by Julian.

"I don't have time. I must find her."

The month he had promised Meng Po did not allow him to waste time like this.

The assistant blocked him firmly, refusing to back down no matter what.

Just as they were arguing, the hospital room door was knocked.

A middle-aged man in a suit uniform walked in, and Julian recognized him instantly as Claire’s lawyer.

"Hello, Mr. Julian. This is a newly signed divorce agreement that Ms. Claire has entrusted me to give to you. Ms. Claire already knows that the previous one was torn up by you."

Julian’s heart sank sharply. He took the file and his gaze swept rapidly to the signature section on the last page.

Claire’s name was already signed, but the column for the husband’s signature next to it remained blank.

He didn't know why, even though the ending of the previous life had already been changed.

Why did Claire still want to divorce him?

"I want to see her." Julian raised his head, his gaze sweeping sharply toward the lawyer. "You tell her I want to talk to her."

The lawyer pushed up his glasses, his tone calm and ripple-free. "I’m sorry, Mr. Julian. Ms. Claire has entrusted all matters related to the divorce to me entirely. All subsequent procedures will be handled through me. If you have any objections to the terms in the divorce agreement, we can communicate directly..."

"I only want to talk to her. You tell her that if she won't see me, I will absolutely not agree to the divorce."

He tore the divorce agreement in his hand to shreds as he spoke.

At the same time, he drove the lawyer out.

Enduring the pain in his body, he tried to get out of bed again.

"Mr. Julian, even if you are discharged now, it is useless. We have no idea where the madam has gone."

The assistant was sweating with anxiety.

Julian pushed him aside directly. "Then go investigate. Use all resources to find out exactly where she is! I need to know where she went!"

His voice sank, his tone an unquestionable command.

The assistant, knowing his temper and seeing that his mind was made up, could only respond helplessly, "Yes, I will go investigate immediately."

After enduring days that felt like years in bed, the assistant finally found Claire's whereabouts.

"Mr. Julian, the madam is currently in a small town in Switzerland."

After getting the address, Julian immediately booked the nearest flight to rush over.

The assistant looked at his still pale and sickly complexion, his face full of worry. "Mr. Julian, your body cannot withstand such a long-haul flight..."

"I won't die." Julian interrupted him, his gaze looking toward the distance through the airport’s massive floor-to-ceiling windows.

Even if he were to die, he had to explain everything about their previous life to Claire before his end.

After a long-haul flight of over ten hours, Julian finally arrived at the small town at the foot of the Alps.

This was a place they had visited during their honeymoon years ago.

They had once climbed to the summit of the snowy mountain together, and under the blue sky and white clouds, he had promised her he would love her for a lifetime.

In the end, he was the one who broke his word first.

And now, Claire chose to come here.

In her heart, she still cared, didn't she?

She cared about the beautiful past they shared.

Following the address provided by the assistant, Julian found the guesthouse where Claire was staying.

He stood in front of her door, his hands trembling as he raised them to press the doorbell.

After waiting for a while, the door was slowly pulled open from inside.

Standing in the doorway was the very person he had been thinking of day and night.

"Claire, I finally found you..."

He forgot the injuries on his body and forgot all the speeches he had prepared.

He stumbled forward, almost rushing through the door to pull her into his arms, his strength so great he nearly wanted to knead her into his own flesh and blood.

"Claire, I missed you so much..." His voice choked, and tears gushed out uncontrollably.

The massive sense of relief and the agitation of recovering what was lost made his arms tremble slightly; he spoke incoherently. "It's so good; you're still alive... It’s really so good..."

Claire was shocked by this sudden embrace, her body instantly stiffening.

Without hesitation, she pushed Julian away with force and stepped back two paces, distancing herself.

Julian was pushed back, stumbling unexpectedly, and a violent pain erupted in his chest again, causing him to cough violently.

"Claire, what's wrong with you..."

Claire frowned, her eyes cold and distant, as if looking at a total stranger.

"Julian, why are you here?"

"I have already signed the divorce agreement and given it to the lawyer. Haven't you always wanted a divorce? Now I am fulfilling your wish, just as you wanted. Why are you still appearing here and continuing to pester me?"

Julian’s expression froze, his heart feeling as though it had been carved out by a knife.

"That’s not it, Claire, listen to me. I never wanted to divorce you. Everything before was fake. Sylvia and I were just acting. I was the one who asked her to cooperate in deceiving you. I thought... I thought I was the one who was going to die. I was afraid that you wouldn't be able to handle it after I died, so I tried everything to push you away, to make you hate me. I thought that was the best thing for you..."

"But later, I learned everything you did for me. I learned that if it weren't for you, I would never have been able to live this life again. You saved me, but I treated you like that."

"I'm sorry, Claire. It is I who failed you; everything was my fault. Can you forgive me?"

He stepped forward eagerly to grab her hand, but Claire avoided him.

Her gaze turned even colder, even carrying a hint of mockery. "Julian, what kind of nonsense are you babbling?"

She took another step back, distancing herself from him further.

"You say you and Sylvia were acting, then was your confession to her in front of the entire city also acting? Was kicking me out of the house for her sake acting? Was your tacit approval of her breaking my mother’s peace lock also acting? Was you having her send me to a mental hospital also acting?"

"Do you think I’m an idiot, that I’m so easily fooled?"

She scoffed, her voice suddenly rising with long-suppressed grievance and anger.

"I don't know what kind of trick you are playing now, and I’m not interested. It is over between us. I am withdrawing to fulfill your wish with Sylvia; you have received the divorce agreement. If you have any problems, please contact my lawyer directly. Do not come looking for me again in the future."

After she finished speaking, she made a move to force him out of the room.

Julian stood frozen in place. Claire’s reaction was wrong; she didn't seem to remember their past life.

"Claire, don't you remember our past life? Meng Po has already told me; in our previous life, you exchanged your own life to grant me my rebirth. Don't you remember any of this?"

Claire paused, turning her head to look at him as if he were a madman. "Julian, did the car accident break your brain? What past life? What Meng Po? I don't know what crazy talk you are on about. I will say this one last time: it is over between us."

Julian froze completely, his blood congealing at that moment.

Claire had truly forgotten.

Forgotten everything from the past life, forgotten the deal she made with Meng Po.

She only remembered the cold looks, the humiliation, and the injuries he had inflicted upon her for the sake of another woman.

And he, even though he wanted to explain, had nowhere to begin.

A massive sense of helplessness and despair washed over Julian like a tide.

He suddenly recalled Meng Po's words.

The destiny between him and Claire had long since ended; even if they tried again, they would still miss each other.
