"The Blood He Waited For" Chapter 11
On the charcoal velvet sofa, Vivienne sat up. Her fingers drifted to her bare wrist. The "Aurelia" memory still pulsed behind her eyes, a jagged star of dark red against her medical logic.
"Are you certain you want to open this door, Vivienne?" Evander's voice was a velvet rasp, low and vibrating through the floorboards.
"Once you walk through, the world will never look like a hospital ward again. You will face a danger that no textbook can diagnose and no surgery can fix".
Vivienne's knuckles turned white as she gripped the edge of the sofa. "I'm already seeing ghosts in my patient charts, Count. I'm writing names from the ninth century in my sleep".
She stood up, her legs shaky but her chin set in that stubborn, modern defiance that both wounded and fascinated him. "You don't get to decide what I can handle".
Evander took a slow, predatory step toward her, stopping just at the edge of her personal space.
"The girl you saw... her name was Aurelia Ravenshire," he said. "Twelve hundred years ago, our lives were knotted together in a way that defied the kings and the plagues of that era. We loved each other with a ferocity that history tried to burn away".
Vivienne's breath hitched. "How do you know this? You talk about it like you were there."
"I have the memories," Evander replied, his gaze pinning her in place. He didn't blink. "I was born with them. Every detail of her face, the specific scent of her skin, the way she looked at me when the world was ending... it has been in my mind since my first breath in this life. I didn't find this in a book, Vivienne. I lived it".
He reached out, his hand hovering near her cheek, the cold radiating from him biting into her skin. He chose the words carefully, weaving a veil of half-truths to protect the fragile illusion of her normalcy.
"You are her reincarnation," he murmured, the sound a prayer and a curse. "The 'Moonblood' in your veins is the bridge. We are two souls caught in a cycle of tragedy, and I have spent every waking moment of my life waiting for you to walk through a door and recognize me".
Vivienne stepped back, her head shaking. "A soul-bond? Reincarnation? That's not biology, Evander. That's... that's madness."
"It is your reality," Evander countered, his voice dropping to a frequency that made the glass walls hum. "And because you carry that blood, because you are "her", there are people in the shadows who will stop at nothing to take it from you. That is the danger I warned you about".
Vivienne looked at the man in the white suit. "Is that why you noticed me, even protected me?" she whispered.
"I cannot endure losing you a second time". He left the truth of his immortality unsaid, letting her believe he was merely a man cursed with a permanent memory of a past love.

Vivienne took a deep breath, anchoring her voice in the logic of a medical student rather than a victim of fate.
"Evander," she said, her voice steady despite the jagged edge of the memories. "I know you may have spent a long time looking for me. I can feel those... fragments. But I need you to not take this so seriously."
Evander's silhouette froze against the moonlight. The glacial blue of his eyes fractured with a look of sudden, sharp displacement, as if a thousand-year-old script had just been rewritten.
"That was another life." Vivienne took a step forward, her spine rigid, the grey-green fire of her own personality burning in her gaze. "Biologically and psychologically, I am Vivienne Whitmore. I have my own childhood, my own struggles, and a personality I built piece by piece over twenty-four years. And Aurelia... she was a girl from the ninth century who was sacrificed for a family's survival."
She took a step closer, meeting his glacial blue eyes. "It was the 'Him' in your past life who lost the 'her' in my past life."
"You are trying to reach back and fix a tragedy that ended a thousand years ago," Vivienne said, refusing to flinch from his agony. Her grey-green eyes burned with the fire of the present, not the echoes of the past. "But the reality is that I am not the girl who was sacrificed for her family. I am not the girl who died in your arms during a plague. If you are only here to use me as an apology for your own regrets, then this 'love' is a heavier burden than any curse."
Evander did not answer. He stood like a statue weathered by centuries of wind and ice, allowing the impact of her words to collide with his thousand-year-old guilt.
The rejection, phrased in the sharp language of modern autonomy, seemed to wound him more than twelve centuries of silence.
"Love doesn't have to be with a lover from a past life," Vivienne continued, her voice softening but remaining sharp. "If love is just a memory replay, then it's meaningless. I am grateful you saved me. I can understand your loneliness. But I won't step into a romance just because of past life's memory. It's unfair to me—and it's unfair to Aurelia."
Evander's breath hitched. His knuckles turned a deathly white as he gripped the edge of the obsidian desk, the fabric of his white silk gloves straining under the pressure. Vivienne could feel the frozen air in the room begin to crack.
Evander looked down at his own pale, eternally cold hands. He realized that the miracle he had waited twelve centuries for was trying to escape his grasp with a fierce, rebellious vitality he had never imagined.
