"The Vow of Shattered Snow" Chapter 15

"You lost a woman who loved you very much..."
"How did you treat her? Heh, you will live in guilt over her for the rest of your life!"
Julian clutched his chest. The assistant was still steadying him when he roared: "I told you to investigate! Immediately! Now! Go! Go!" Julian had completely lost his composure. He didn't know how to face this truth—he really didn't. The posts from ten years ago, the prenatal checks from not long ago, the gentleness of their marriage years—the torrent of love formed by all these things had turned into a prehistoric beast, crushing everything he had known and the last line of defense in his heart. Julian was in such pain he couldn't breathe. He leaned against the wall, and when the doctor moved to steady him, Julian shoved him away!
"Tell me, where did Gu Roujia go?!" Julian gasped violently. The doctor shook his head: "I don't know."
Julian had no heart to argue with the doctor. He clutched his chest and walked slowly outside, leaving the stunned nurses and doctor behind. Julian sat in his car, breathing slowly. He didn't even dare to close his eyes; the moment he did, he saw Gu Roujia in that dilapidated hospital, in the room filled with an unpleasant odor, holding the rag doll, laughing madly, heartbroken... They were both orphans; he could imagine her anticipation and doting for that child, yet he had brutally snatched that love from her hands!
No wonder she was so cold to me!
No wonder she hated me so much!
Julian laughed at himself. There is no such thing as a regret pill in this world, and God wouldn't listen to his repentance. He could only bear the bitter fruit himself!
The assistant called: "The doctor said she chose to protect the child..."
The doctor said she chose to protect the child...
Julian threw his phone, smashing it to pieces.
"Ah!"
He slammed the steering wheel. Who was tricking whom in all of this? Guilt and pain twisted together, tightening around his heart and choking his throat!
Chapter 30: Kill Her
Julian returned home in a daze, collapsing weakly onto the sofa in the living room. He was trapped in a vortex of guilt he couldn't escape. Scenes from his memories flickered through his mind like the pages of a book, pouring into his heart and stabbing at it with every frame.
"If only I had discovered it sooner..." Julian thought gloomily. "Perhaps none of this would have happened..."
Julian had never imagined that Gu Roujia would care for the child this much. Just because she loved him, just because it was their child, she had been willing to forfeit her own life!
Gu Roujia was an orphan; she knew better than anyone what a child needed most. How could such a gentle and kind woman not be in pain, despair, and sorrow? How could she, a lone woman, bear this much agony, this much hopelessness, and this much grief?

"What on earth have I done?!" Julian held his head in his hands. "Julian, you are such a bastard!"
Hearing from Mother Wang that Julian had returned, Eva ran downstairs like a happy little bird. Seeing Julian’s desolate expression, she froze; it must be that woman, Gu Roujia, again.
"We’re getting married soon, so don't be so unhappy. It makes me feel terrible too."
Julian turned his head to look at Eva, his face dark and his eyes indifferent.
Eva turned her head awkwardly and gave a self-deprecating laugh: "Julian, actually, I really regret it. I was roommates with Roujia in the dorms. I knew she was an orphan back then and felt very sympathetic toward her. Actually, friends around me always advised me not to get close to her. If I hadn't let my sympathy run wild back then, perhaps we wouldn't have been separated for so many years, and we wouldn't have lost our child because of it."
She knew that Julian had always felt deeply guilty toward her.
So, she deliberately reminded Julian that their child, and their years of separation, were all caused by Gu Roujia.
As Julian listened to Eva talk about the past, everything coming out of her mouth was the complete opposite of what he had seen in Gu Roujia’s diary.
Gu Roujia had never once thought of interfering in their relationship. Everything Eva was saying was a lie!
"Have you said enough?!" Julian roared.
Eva startled, and tears began to pour down her face.
Julian exhaled a breath of stale air and said in a cold, indifferent tone: "I want to get these matters handled before we mention marriage again."
"Fine, go ahead and handle them." Eva’s heart skipped a beat. "But be quick, okay?"
Julian said: "I mean, the wedding date is cancelled."
"What?! What did you say?" Eva suddenly stood up. "What did you just say?"
"It’s not..." Eva watched Julian stand up and walk toward his room. She tried to grab him, but Julian said flatly: "I’m tired. We’ll talk about this tomorrow."
Eva stood where she was, stunned. How could this happen? They were so close to reaching their goal; how could the result turn into this?
It must be because of that woman, Gu Roujia!
With red eyes, she whispered in a manic state: "It doesn't matter. You’re going to die soon anyway. You’ll never have the chance to influence us again!"
Chapter 31: Finishing the Posts
Julian returned to his room and picked up the old mobile phone. He held it up to his nose, wanting to find Gu Roujia’s scent on it. Last time, he had only seen the part where Gu Roujia was secretly in love with him; there was still so much more.
Julian read the diaries quietly. Every word was like a blade, causing him agonizing pain.
As he read, he couldn't help but recall their time together, including the years after they were married, when Gu Roujia’s gentleness had wrapped itself around his entire life.

But now, it was all lost...
Julian continued to read.
【Xiao Nan told me that after Eva went abroad, she was with someone else—not just one person. I don't know if I should tell him. He must still love Eva. If he found out, he would be very sad. He asked me to stay with him. I know the one he loves isn't me, but if I can make him feel a little better, I’m willing. When he finds relief, I will leave.】
Julian frowned. Back then, after Eva left him to go abroad, he was in extreme pain. Gu Roujia had stayed by his side the whole time. One night, when he was drunk, he grabbed Gu Roujia’s hand and asked her to stay.
So, Gu Roujia had never thought about staying; she had never thought about forcing his love.
He muttered: "I said she calculated her way into my affections, but I forgot that it was I who first grabbed her hand and begged her to stay."
【He proposed to me. Can I really have happiness?】
【Baby, I’m pregnant. With him, with a child... am I finally going to have a home?】
【Eva is back. I know she doesn't love him. For the sake of the child, to give the child a home, I cannot let go this time.】
Julian’s fingertips trembled. He didn't even dare to keep reading the posts below.
He had always known how much he was in the wrong regarding the events of those years.
Back then, he had always held Eva in his heart, but Gu Roujia’s gentleness had also made him fall for her. He had mustered the courage to propose to Gu Roujia just to force himself to forget Eva.
He never expected Eva to return at that exact moment.
He saw Eva telling him she still loved him, and he had been completely unable to refuse.
【Today, I played the villain. I forced Eva away. I know he hates me. I’m sorry, Julian.】
In the forum, someone left a comment asking Gu Roujia why she didn't tell Julian about the decadent life Eva was living abroad.
【If he knew that the person he loved so much was like that, he would be very sad. I’d rather he misunderstand me and hate me, as long as he doesn't have to suffer like that.】
His eye sockets turned red.
She didn't want him to suffer, so she let him hate her.
"You fool, why are you such a fool!"
Why had she silently done so much, yet never let him know?
But it was precisely after that incident that his patience with Gu Roujia had reached its absolute limit. He had assumed that for Eva to leave, Gu Roujia must have used underhanded means to achieve her goal.
Reading this, Julian dialed his assistant’s phone: "Go and investigate Eva’s life abroad, and then send it to my email."
"Understood, Mr. Lin. I’ll handle it immediately," the assistant said.

BENEATH THE MASK
Kael Vanth survived black sites, covert wars, psychological conditioning, and years of being turned into something more useful than human. Tier-One mercenary. BLACK VEIL operative. A masked ghost people whispered about in locked rooms. The kind of man governments denied existing while secretly pointing toward impossible problems and saying: > “Send him.” He was silent, lethal, emotionally unreadable. A man who wore tactical gloves like skin and violence like breathing. Even other mercenaries kept their distance. As for someone like that— Eliana Vale, civilian translator, professional liar, and deeply unqualified emotional disaster, had one immediate thought: > “He looks like he hasn’t slept since the fall of Rome.” Then one night, Kael watched her calmly steal classified intel from beneath the nose of an armed contractor while pretending to flirt over champagne. He was monitoring the room from a rooftop sniper position. One second he was calculating bullet trajectory. The next? Eliana smiled at the target, slipped a data drive into her sleeve, shattered a wine glass into a guard’s throat, and walked out before the body even hit the floor. Kael forgot to pull the trigger. For exactly four seconds. The longest distraction he’d had in years. ... Later, Eliana sat cross-legged on the floor of a freezing safehouse, translating encrypted files while six armed operatives cleaned blood off their gear nearby. No one spoke. Mostly because Ghost was standing behind her. Watching. Eliana didn’t look up. > “Does your organization offer therapy, or is unresolved trauma part of the uniform?” The room went dead silent. Kane slowly stopped breathing. Because nobody joked with Ghost. Nobody. Kael stood motionless beside the table, skull-black mask tilted slightly toward her. Then finally: > “Eliana.” She glanced up lazily. > “That’s my name, yes. Excellent observational skills.” His grey eyes lowered briefly to the bruise on her wrist. Then to the knife hidden in her boot. Then back to her face. > “You’re hiding something.” Eliana smiled too quickly. > “So are you.” Another long silence. Heavy. Dangerous. Then Kael stepped closer. Close enough for her to hear the roughness in his breathing beneath the mask. > “You should be afraid of me.” Eliana looked directly into his eyes. > “You keep saying that like it’s a warning instead of a confession.” ① Emotionally repressed masked mercenary × emotionally guarded civilian liar ② He was trained to kill without hesitation.
