"The Vow of Shattered Snow" Chapter 13

Gu Roujia’s disappointment in Julian far outweighed her love. When she saw the signature on the abortion consent form, her heart had died—died completely.
It turned out the man she had loved deeply for so many years was so cold-blooded and ruthless. He had never known how much she cherished the child that belonged to them, nor how much pain she felt; a little life about to enter this world had died at his father’s heartless hand.
Thinking of this, tears slid down Gu Roujia’s face. Her love, her child—everything was gone, leaving only memories like a pan of boiling oil, like a sickle, cutting her heart deeply and煎熬 her spirit every time she remembered.
"Julian, I hate you!" Gu Roujia said through gritted teeth, her tears soaking the pillow and seeping back into her mind, turning into bitter memories.
It was from this day on that Gu Roujia agreed to undergo treatment under Julian’s supervision.
Every day, Julian would go to the hospital to watch Gu Roujia undergo rehabilitation.
Chapter 26: I Can Withdraw
Rehabilitation was grueling. Every time she wanted to give up, she would feel Julian’s gaze and remember his cold words, and she would grit her teeth and persist.
After Gu Roujia finished her physical therapy, her hospital gown was soaked in sweat. After washing up and changing, she came out and happened to hear two nurses whispering.
"That gentleman really dotes on this young lady..."
"Exactly, he watches over her silently every day, fearing something might happen. How deep that love must be. If I had such a good boyfriend, I’d be willing to die for him."
"With your looks? Maybe in the next life, hahaha..."
Gu Roujia, standing behind the door, pursed her lips, full of disbelief. How could that cold-blooded man have any feelings for her?
He was merely afraid that if she became an invalid, she would cling to his side for the rest of her life.
The next morning, as soon as Gu Roujia woke up, she opened her eyes to see Julian watching her silently. A flash of surprise crossed her mind, but when she looked again, he was gone.
Gu Roujia sat blankly on the bed for a long while; Julian’s gaze of concern kept flashing through her mind.
How could that person look at her with such eyes?
The nurses’ conversation kept ringing in her ears.
She tightened her grip on the quilt, her mind in chaos. She shook her head hard and patted her cheeks: "Don't be a fool, Gu Roujia. Don't you remember the pain? How many more times does this person have to hurt you before you learn to give up!"
Julian left the hospital in a panic.
He looked as if he were fleeing after having a secret exposed.
The phone suddenly rang. Julian’s movements stiffened. He took a deep breath, pulled out his phone, and upon seeing Eva’s name, answered the call.

"Darling, will you accompany me to try on wedding dresses today?" Eva asked softly on the other end.
Julian replied languidly: "I’m very tired today. Let’s go another day."
Julian hung up the phone and smiled bitterly. What is wrong with me? Just a moment ago, he had been hoping the caller was Gu Roujia, and he even felt a sense of loss the moment he saw Eva’s name.
He rubbed his temples helplessly, thinking: Julian, wake up. The person you love is Eva; don't be fooled by Gu Roujia’s tricks!
He couldn't go see Gu Roujia anymore!
On the other end, after hanging up, Eva gritted her teeth in fury, her face twisted and hideous. She squeezed her bag until it deformed, glaring at the door and thinking viciously: "Julian, you think I don't know if you don't tell me the truth? You really do still love that bitch!"
During this period, Julian claimed he was busy with company matters every day, and she hadn't seen him for days.
She felt something was wrong and had contacted a detective. That morning, when she saw the photos the detective sent of Julian at the hospital, Eva was so furious she dropped her phone on the floor.
"You really haven't let go of her!" She had called to remind him about the wedding, and Julian had just brushed her off with indifference.
Thinking that Julian was still by Gu Roujia’s side, she longed to rush over and separate them immediately.
"I won't let you ruin things between me and Julian again!" Eva’s gaze turned vicious. "I must make you disappear forever!"
Eva dressed up beautifully and went to the hospital to find Gu Roujia. She was going to make the unyielding Gu Roujia completely despair and force the woman who still clung to fantasies about seducing her man to lose all hope!
Chapter 27: Traces of Her Everywhere
Gu Roujia fell from the parallel bars again with a thud. She sat on the floor, feeling annoyed.
The nurse said, "Miss Gu, you don't look like you're in good shape today, and your knees are bruised. Why don't you rest early and practice again tomorrow?"
Gu Roujia nodded. She subconsciously glanced toward the window, seeing the empty corridor, and felt a wave of disappointment.
Stop letting your imagination run wild. Don't let that person influence you anymore.
Previously, Julian would stand outside the window watching her rehabilitation, but two hours had passed today without any sign of him.
She braced herself against the wall and stood up.
A pair of pink high heels came into her line of sight. Gu Roujia looked up and met the gaze of a well-dressed and glamorous Eva.
"What are you here for?" Gu Roujia said coldly, pulling away from Eva’s hand.
"I’m here to invite you to my wedding with Julian," Eva said happily. "The wedding is in nine days. Make sure to come."

Gu Roujia bit her lip, saying nothing. Her heart felt as if it had been pierced by a knife.
He was finally going to marry Eva.
Seeing her distracted, Eva looked her up and down. The current Gu Roujia was as thin as a skeleton, her face pale and her hair messy; she couldn't even compare to her toes.
"Oh, the television is playing the news about our wedding!" Eva covered her mouth, watching Gu Roujia’s face turn paler. The corners of her mouth curved higher: "Roujia, don't tell me you still have illusions about Julian? He told me that sending you to the hospital was just so I wouldn't feel guilty, so it wouldn't affect our happy life ahead. Surely you don't think you can stay by his side by pestering him, do you?"
The news anchor was indeed reporting that the heir to the city's largest conglomerate was about to get married in nine days. What Eva said was true.
She slowly lowered her head, hiding her expression.
"I will leave," she said with a smile. "Then I wish you and Mr. Gu a hundred years of harmony! And may you have children soon!"
Gu Roujia emphasized the words "have children soon." Eva acted as if she didn't hear the weight behind them, laughing, "Well then, if you want to leave, I’ll send someone to see you off."
Gu Roujia lay on the hospital bed, her eyes dull and motionless. When she finally looked up, her face was already covered in tears.
He hadn't come to the hospital because he was busy preparing for their wedding.
And she was still hoping for something.
She really was the biggest fool in the world. The man had done nothing but look from afar, and her heart had already wavered.
It is time to leave, Gu Roujia secretly resolved. She couldn't let herself sink any further.
Two days later, feeling her body had recovered enough, Gu Roujia asked the doctor if she could be discharged.
"Your body has recovered reasonably well, but try to avoid intense exercise and strong stimulation for the time being."
Gu Roujia left the hospital. Because she had specifically requested it, Julian did not receive the news of her departure.
However, all of this was under Eva’s surveillance. The moment Gu Roujia left, Eva received the news, a look of gratification and ruthlessness appearing on her face: "Gu Roujia, you bitch, disappear from this world forever!"
Eva took out her phone, dialed a strange number, and said coldly, "Follow her. Act when the time is right."
"Received." A cold voice came from the other side. Eva sneered, suddenly feeling a sense of ease. "An accidental car crash—no one will suspect me."
Gu Roujia took a taxi to the station, not noticing the van parked in the distance, quietly following behind her.
Julian was oblivious to all of this. He dragged his weary body out of a bar. Not wanting to return to the villa where Eva was, he wandered aimlessly until he reached the apartment where he and Gu Roujia had lived when they were first married. They had lived there for a brief six months before moving to the villa.

BENEATH THE MASK
Kael Vanth survived black sites, covert wars, psychological conditioning, and years of being turned into something more useful than human. Tier-One mercenary. BLACK VEIL operative. A masked ghost people whispered about in locked rooms. The kind of man governments denied existing while secretly pointing toward impossible problems and saying: > “Send him.” He was silent, lethal, emotionally unreadable. A man who wore tactical gloves like skin and violence like breathing. Even other mercenaries kept their distance. As for someone like that— Eliana Vale, civilian translator, professional liar, and deeply unqualified emotional disaster, had one immediate thought: > “He looks like he hasn’t slept since the fall of Rome.” Then one night, Kael watched her calmly steal classified intel from beneath the nose of an armed contractor while pretending to flirt over champagne. He was monitoring the room from a rooftop sniper position. One second he was calculating bullet trajectory. The next? Eliana smiled at the target, slipped a data drive into her sleeve, shattered a wine glass into a guard’s throat, and walked out before the body even hit the floor. Kael forgot to pull the trigger. For exactly four seconds. The longest distraction he’d had in years. ... Later, Eliana sat cross-legged on the floor of a freezing safehouse, translating encrypted files while six armed operatives cleaned blood off their gear nearby. No one spoke. Mostly because Ghost was standing behind her. Watching. Eliana didn’t look up. > “Does your organization offer therapy, or is unresolved trauma part of the uniform?” The room went dead silent. Kane slowly stopped breathing. Because nobody joked with Ghost. Nobody. Kael stood motionless beside the table, skull-black mask tilted slightly toward her. Then finally: > “Eliana.” She glanced up lazily. > “That’s my name, yes. Excellent observational skills.” His grey eyes lowered briefly to the bruise on her wrist. Then to the knife hidden in her boot. Then back to her face. > “You’re hiding something.” Eliana smiled too quickly. > “So are you.” Another long silence. Heavy. Dangerous. Then Kael stepped closer. Close enough for her to hear the roughness in his breathing beneath the mask. > “You should be afraid of me.” Eliana looked directly into his eyes. > “You keep saying that like it’s a warning instead of a confession.” ① Emotionally repressed masked mercenary × emotionally guarded civilian liar ② He was trained to kill without hesitation.
