"The Vow of Shattered Snow" Chapter 5

Eva’s belly must be fake.
Clara’s restless heart finally calmed down.
There was no child in Eva’s belly; she was lying.
Eva’s expression changed, her nails digging into her palms. That incident—she had hidden it so well; how could Clara possibly know?
"Eva?" Although reason told him that Clara’s words weren't worth believing, perhaps because Clara’s expression was so earnest, a trace of hesitation unknowingly stirred within his heart.
"Clara, I always treated you as my best friend. I never thought you would be this kind of person. Whether the child in my belly is real or fake, we’ll know once we go to the hospital," Eva said, gritting her teeth.
Chapter 10: Miscarriage
"Then we shall all go to the hospital together. A child is a major matter; both of you should be checked thoroughly."
Zhao Yun’s word settled the matter.
Clara’s fingers tightened. Zhao Yun still wanted her to get a check-up.
The Angel Hospital was a high-end pediatric facility under the Lin family banner, and Zhao Yun personally chose it.
Eva said, "Julian, during the examination, I want Clara to come in with me."
Julian looked at her with concern, but Eva insisted, "Don't worry, there will be doctors and nurses present. I won't get hurt, and I love the child in my belly very much. However, I want Clara to see it with her own eyes; otherwise, she’ll just slander me later, saying that since it’s a Lin family hospital, the doctors and nurses were all bribed by you."
Julian had no choice but to agree.
Clara naturally didn't object. She did indeed have that concern.
She wasn't sure what Julian would do for Eva.
For the sake of the child in her own womb, she couldn't take that risk.
Clara followed Eva into the ultrasound room.
Eva sat on the hospital bed, her beautiful eyes filled with hatred. "Clara, I already gave you a way out. Take that check, you could have filled in a number to keep you comfortable for the rest of your life. But you chose not to, so don't blame me for being ruthless."
A bad premonition arose in Clara’s heart. Before she could react, she saw Eva suddenly clutch her belly and fall to the ground.
Red blood flowed from between her legs, staining her white dress.
"Help! Clara, please, spare my child! My child is innocent!" Eva screamed at the top of her lungs. Clara tried to shake off Eva’s hand, but Eva gripped it tightly.
"Eva, are you crazy? This is your own flesh and blood! You’re actually using the child in your belly to frame me?"
The door to the ultrasound room was kicked open with a bang. Julian saw Eva lying on the ground, covered in blood, his eyes bloodshot. "Clara! If anything happens to Eva, I will make you pay with your life!"
Eva was rushed into the operating room. A few hours later, the doctor walked out: "I’m sorry, we couldn't save the child in Miss Eva’s belly. Furthermore, the uterus has suffered severe trauma; it is highly unlikely she will be able to conceive in the future."

Clara shook her head. "No, she fell on her own and had a miscarriage! I never even touched her! There were doctors and nurses in the ultrasound room—they can testify!"
"Miss Clara, you were clearly the one who pushed Miss Eva to the ground and kicked her stomach viciously, causing this. Both the nurse and I saw it perfectly clearly."
Clara was stunned. How could this be? What were they saying? The facts were completely different.
Julian grabbed Clara’s hand, his black eyes so cold they were practically freezing. "Clara, to think you are such a vicious woman! I’m going to kill you to pay for Eva’s debt!"
Julian’s hands clamped around Clara’s throat, squeezing hard. She couldn't breathe, so she struck out at him, hitting him hard.
But he had no intention of letting go.
"Julian, that’s enough. I don't care what you do to her, but that must wait until after the child is born."
Zhao Yun had the bodyguards separate her from the irrational Julian.
"Clara, I will make you wish you were dead."
Her body stiffened.
Just now, when Julian was strangling her, she had seen it clearly—the hatred in his eyes was chilling to the bone.
He truly, genuinely wanted to kill her.
Chapter 11: Remember Your Promise
Clara was imprisoned in the Lin family’s ancestral home. Two days later, Zhao Yun actually handed her over to Julian!
She curled up in her room, refusing to leave.
Julian had his bodyguards force her into the car.
"Where is Mom? I want to see her."
Being dragged by the bodyguards, Clara shouted loudly at a maid passing by.
Julian said coldly, "Mom is no longer your support, Clara. If Mom hadn't agreed, do you think I could have brought you out of the ancestral home so blatantly?"
She froze.
Zhao Yun was the only backer she could rely on. If even Zhao Yun didn't care about her, then...
Julian gripped her chin, pulling her close and forcing her to look up. He said coldly, "Mom only wants the child in your womb. I promised her the child would survive. As for what happens to you, she couldn't care less."
Clara was silent for a moment before saying slowly, "Julian, can you really promise me that you will let me safely give birth to this child, and then you will properly raise the child to adulthood without letting him suffer any harm?"
Julian frowned. Clara’s sudden calm tone made him feel uncomfortable.
"Of course. This is my child, too."
"Fine. Then I agree to the divorce, and I won't oppose you marrying Eva." Her pale lips curled into a smile. "As long as you remember your promise to me."
"It's too late. Do you think that by agreeing to the divorce now, you can just wipe clean what you did to Eva?"
He said he would spare the child, but he never said he would spare her!

Clara stood up suddenly, meeting Julian’s eyes with her gentle gaze, and said earnestly, "Julian, we have been married for five years and known each other for twenty. Everything I, Clara, have wanted to do has always been upright. If I say I did nothing to Eva, then it was all her own fabrication. If a person has done something, it will leave traces. If you are willing to investigate, I believe you will surely find the truth."
"I am not willing!" Julian sneered. "Clara, don't play any more tricks with me. I won't believe a single word you say."
Five years ago, she had forced Eva away right in front of him.
Five years later, she had caused the death of his and Eva’s child right in front of him.
In this life, the only person he had been schemed against by was Clara.
He could not believe her words anymore. Besides, that hospital was a Lin family property, and Mom had handpicked the staff. Eva had been staying abroad the whole time; how could she possibly have bribed them!
Her eyelashes fluttered lightly, then slowly lowered.
So that was it.
How could he ever believe her?
"As long as you remember your promise, you and Eva can do whatever you want with this life—it doesn't matter to me."
She wasn't going to live much longer anyway.
As long as the child could grow up safely, she could endure whatever they wanted to do to her.
Even if it meant taking her life!
Julian’s fingers, which had been tapping on the table, stopped abruptly. A flicker of hesitation flashed through his eyes.
But he quickly regained his composure.
Enough, Julian. Don't be fooled by this woman.
She was just making a final struggle.
Chapter 12: He Won't Harm the Child
Julian’s villa in the suburbs.
"Has this place been renovated?"
"Yes, sir said that the madam likes warm tones and that the black-and-white style looked too gloomy for a happy occasion!" said the newly hired maid.
Clara bit her lip and remained silent.
Returning to this place once more felt like a lifetime ago.
The layout was completely different: pink carpets, goose-yellow curtains.
When she lived here before, there were only two colors, black and white, even when they were newlyweds.
She had once bought a bouquet of flowers, and Julian had scolded her for it.
Back then, she had naively thought that Julian simply liked this minimalist style and didn't allow any changes.
It turned out it was only because the person living here was her.
His world lost Eva, leaving only black and white. He locked his heart and built a tomb for Eva inside it.
And she was merely the tombkeeper he had imprisoned with him.
"I see your belly is quite big now. What is your husband thinking? You're about to give birth, yet he still makes you work."
"It's fine, my health is good."

BENEATH THE MASK
Kael Vanth survived black sites, covert wars, psychological conditioning, and years of being turned into something more useful than human. Tier-One mercenary. BLACK VEIL operative. A masked ghost people whispered about in locked rooms. The kind of man governments denied existing while secretly pointing toward impossible problems and saying: > “Send him.” He was silent, lethal, emotionally unreadable. A man who wore tactical gloves like skin and violence like breathing. Even other mercenaries kept their distance. As for someone like that— Eliana Vale, civilian translator, professional liar, and deeply unqualified emotional disaster, had one immediate thought: > “He looks like he hasn’t slept since the fall of Rome.” Then one night, Kael watched her calmly steal classified intel from beneath the nose of an armed contractor while pretending to flirt over champagne. He was monitoring the room from a rooftop sniper position. One second he was calculating bullet trajectory. The next? Eliana smiled at the target, slipped a data drive into her sleeve, shattered a wine glass into a guard’s throat, and walked out before the body even hit the floor. Kael forgot to pull the trigger. For exactly four seconds. The longest distraction he’d had in years. ... Later, Eliana sat cross-legged on the floor of a freezing safehouse, translating encrypted files while six armed operatives cleaned blood off their gear nearby. No one spoke. Mostly because Ghost was standing behind her. Watching. Eliana didn’t look up. > “Does your organization offer therapy, or is unresolved trauma part of the uniform?” The room went dead silent. Kane slowly stopped breathing. Because nobody joked with Ghost. Nobody. Kael stood motionless beside the table, skull-black mask tilted slightly toward her. Then finally: > “Eliana.” She glanced up lazily. > “That’s my name, yes. Excellent observational skills.” His grey eyes lowered briefly to the bruise on her wrist. Then to the knife hidden in her boot. Then back to her face. > “You’re hiding something.” Eliana smiled too quickly. > “So are you.” Another long silence. Heavy. Dangerous. Then Kael stepped closer. Close enough for her to hear the roughness in his breathing beneath the mask. > “You should be afraid of me.” Eliana looked directly into his eyes. > “You keep saying that like it’s a warning instead of a confession.” ① Emotionally repressed masked mercenary × emotionally guarded civilian liar ② He was trained to kill without hesitation.
