"Unfaithful Bonds: Her Silent Revenge" Chapter 8: The Cover-up
Chapter 8: The Cover-up
Because I had long known that Julian had betrayed me, I didn't feel any heartbreak upon seeing that Lydia was pregnant with his child.
Sebastian had already thoroughly investigated Julian’s financial situation. He had five hundred thousand in stocks and funds, and two million in savings. The house we lived in and the car he drove were all classified as pre-marital assets; that prenuptial agreement was designed specifically to protect those properties.
Sebastian told me that if I were to divorce now, the only thing I was guaranteed to receive was one million. However, if I could obtain solid evidence of his infidelity, I could claim much more.
Now, I finally had it.
Lydia was Sebastian’s fiancée. Was he still being kept in the dark, completely unaware that she had already cheated?
Sebastian had helped me a lot during this time. Regardless of the circumstances, I felt I needed to have a talk with him about Lydia.
Because of the weight on my mind, I slept very lightly during the latter half of the night.
When Julian got up in the middle of the night, I woke up almost instantly. I sensed a light in the bedroom—he must have been checking his phone. After staring at the screen, he crept out of bed and hurried out of the room.
I quietly got up and stood by the door, watching him through the crack. He was pacing back and forth in the living room, looking completely unsettled.
He kept dialing a number, presumably calling Lydia.
I quickly grabbed my phone, turned on the video mode, and began filming the cheating man outside—my husband.
Strangely, my heart was exceptionally calm at this moment.
I only wanted to retaliate, to make him regret everything bitterly after the divorce.
I heard him lower his voice and mutter a few sentences—
"How did you get pregnant?"
"Didn't you say it was a safe period? I should have worn a condom if I'd known!"
"Divorce? My daughter is already four years old. What happens to her if I divorce?"
Hearing that last sentence, I let out a cold sneer.
Did Julian actually have a shred of conscience left? He was still thinking about his daughter before the divorce, yet how pathetic it was that he didn't seem to care about my feelings at all.
I saw Julian hang up the phone, but he didn't return immediately. Instead, he lit a cigarette.
I stopped watching him, turned off my phone, went back to bed, and lay down.
A moment later, Julian returned. I heard him sigh before he reached out to embrace me. My body instinctively recoiled, but at this moment, I couldn't push him away. I couldn't let him suspect anything.
The next morning, for the first time ever, Julian woke up earlier than me and even prepared breakfast.
When Daisy and I entered the dining room, he poured soy milk for us. "Honey, try the soy milk I made. How is it?"
I smiled. "Did you do something to feel guilty about?"
His movements froze. He pulled his gaze away from mine and lowered his head, his attempt to hide his reaction painfully obvious. "What could I possibly have to feel guilty about?"
"Finding a woman behind my back, perhaps?" I hadn't intended to bring this up in front of our daughter, but I couldn't resist the urge to see him squirm with a guilty conscience.
As expected, Julian panicked, spilling the soy milk.
My smile widened. "I'm just joking. Why are you so flustered? You can't even pour milk without spilling it. Tell me, if I ever decide I don't want you anymore, will you even be able to take care of yourself?"
Julian walked behind me, leaning down to kiss my cheek. "Then just don't ever leave me, okay?"
The way he was trying to charm me now was absolutely nauseating.
I pushed him away. "Just eat. Our daughter is right here; don't set a bad example for her."
Daisy giggled. "You won't ruin me. I'm very smart. But Daddy, when Mommy said you were finding women outside, you really did look panicked. You haven't actually done anything to hurt Mommy, have you?"
