"The Billionaire Can Read My Mind: My Runaway Wife is a Mystic" Chapter 44
Chapter 44: Departure for the Moore House
Seren Thorne put away her phone and noticed Alaric Vane entering the room with a scowl. She was immediately puzzled.
{Who upset the 'dog man' again? His face is so sour.}
Alaric: Who else but you?
He asked coldly, "Who were you chatting with that made you so happy?"
Seren didn't lie to him and said directly, "Sebastian North. He asked me to do him a favor."
Speaking of the male lead, Seren naturally thought of the female lead. She leaned toward Alaric and said mysteriously:
"Did you know? I did a reading for Sebastian North and Evangeline Frost earlier. They used to have a marriage line, but now it's broken."
"And so?" Alaric's face remained cold. "Are you planning to cheat on me and chase Sebastian?"
Seren: "?"
{It's one thing for the 'dog man' to have a foul mouth, but why is he splashing dirty water on me? Do I look like the type to cheat? Clearly, he's the one who's supposed to fall for someone else in the book, okay?}
"Is that the point? The point is that Evangeline Frost is currently single and has no official match!"
{The 'dog man's' chance has arrived! How can he be so thick-headed?}
"Oh." Alaric's expression was indifferent. "So, it's not that you like Sebastian, but that you like Evangeline Frost?"
Seren: "???"
{What on earth? Where do I look like a lesbian???}
While Seren was still stunned and confused by Alaric’s words, he continued, "I’m going with you to the North house tomorrow."
Seren refused without thinking, "No. You have such a bad temper. What if you irritate my client and he stops giving me business?"
Alaric sneered. "Are you worried about him stopping your business, or are you worried that with me, your legal husband, there, it won't be convenient to flirt with a wild man?"
"What nonsense are you talking about? We aren't divorced yet; I still have basic morals. I definitely won't cheat."
"Oh. Meaning once we're divorced, you will."
Seren felt his phrasing was problematic and corrected him, "Once we're divorced, it’s not called cheating anymore."
Alaric said chillingly, "Looking for someone else the moment we divorce proves you’ve already cheated mentally.
"Sleeping next to me while thinking of others, keeping one eye on the bowl and the other on the pot—you have the heart of a thief but lack the courage. You're a 'scum girl'!"
Seren: "?"
{I feel like something is wrong with that logic, but it sounds strangely reasonable.}
She did indeed want to divorce Alaric quickly and find a "young puppy" boyfriend. From a behavioral standpoint, there was an element of being half-hearted.
{Could I really be a scum girl?}
Seren involuntarily fell into deep thought.
But she soon worked it out. The person who married Alaric was the original host, not her. She was just a passerby who had soul-transmigrated here. She never liked Alaric, nor had she ever signed a certificate or sworn an oath with him. Legally and spiritually, she had nothing to do with him. Even if she truly liked someone else, it wouldn't count as mental cheating.

Thinking of this, she was about to continue the battle with Alaric, but he had already ignored her and turned into the bathroom. Since the opposing debater had left, she couldn't say much more and could only end the topic for now.
The next day, when Seren set off for the North house, Alaric followed her into the car anyway. Seren’s attempts to drive him away were fruitless, so she gave up.
At the same time, she couldn't help but wonder why Alaric was so persistent about going to the North house with her. Surely he couldn't actually be worried about something happening between her and Sebastian? Could the "dog man" be jealous?
Not long after this thought emerged, Seren realized she had overthought it when she saw the female lead, Evangeline Frost, standing at the entrance of the North house.
{As it turns out, Alaric knew the female lead would be here, so he insisted on following me like a shameless leech. Tsk.}
{If he likes her, he should just say so. I won't stop him.}
Hearing her thoughts, Alaric’s expression turned gloomy. How many times did he have to say he had zero feelings for Evangeline Frost before this stupid woman would believe him? He wasn't a prophet; how was he supposed to know Evangeline would show up today?
Suppressing his emotions, he looked up at Evangeline. "Miss Frost, what a coincidence. I didn't expect you to be here."
He emphasized the words "didn't expect," trying to distance himself from her.
Seren, however, misinterpreted it.
{Tsk, the 'dog man' is acting stubborn again. His little crush is barely hidden, yet he’s still putting on a cold and aloof act.}
Alaric ground his teeth. So no matter what I do, in Seren’s eyes, it’s a sign of liking Evangeline Frost, right?
Evangeline didn't want to be the fuse that broke their relationship, so she said, "It is indeed a coincidence.
"Mr. Moore learned twenty minutes ago that the North family wanted to break the engagement with Jasmine. He decided to come over on short notice to renegotiate the marriage.
"I just came along to see the situation. Mr. Vane, Mrs. Vane—are you here to see Young Master North as well?"
Evangeline also emphasized that her side had only decided to come twenty minutes ago on short notice, attempting to make Seren understand that Alaric hadn't come specifically for her.
Who knew she would hear Seren’s inner voice: {It seems Alaric’s love for Evangeline is truly deep. The Moore family only found out about the broken engagement twenty minutes ago, yet Alaric had already scouted out the news and prepared to come here for a 'chance' encounter.}
Alaric: "..."
Evangeline: "..."
Alaric: I'm just breathing.
Seren: He's definitely lusting after her.
Evangeline seemed to pity Alaric, giving him a sympathetic look that said she had done all she could. Seren was simply too thick-headed; there was nothing more she could do.
Alaric took a deep breath, trying to act as if he hadn't heard anything, and answered Evangeline’s question: "I'm also here to see Young Master North. I have some business to discuss with him."
While they were talking, Evangeline’s biological mother, Mrs. Moore, and Jasmine were standing nearby. Seeing that the conversation was winding down, Mrs. Moore spoke up to greet them: "Mr. Vane, Mrs. Vane, it’s rare to meet. Do you have time for a cup of tea later?"
As the current head of the Vane family, Alaric was a dazzling presence wherever he stood. Everyone wanted to get close to him and make an impression. Although Mrs. Moore wasn't a social climber, she still wanted to try for a chance to interact with the man in power. After all, a tiny bit of wealth slipping through his fingers could be enough to keep her family profitable for years.
Alaric had been in power for several years and had dealt with countless people trying to flatter him. He was long used to such approaches. He dismissed her casually: "I have work to busy myself with later. Perhaps next time."
Mrs. Moore saw his coldness and didn't persist, tactfully stopping there.
As the group was about to enter the villa, Seren’s inner voice rang out again: {Mrs. Moore is wearing quite a few 'green hats' on her head; her husband has dozens of mistresses and side-pieces tucked away.}
Evangeline paused and instinctively looked at the top of Mrs. Moore's head.
Mrs. Moore, who was supposedly wearing dozens of green hats: "?"
"Daughter, what are you looking at?"
