Chapter 33: Shortening One's Lifespan
Mr. Zhu’s pupils shook with shock, and the others were equally stunned.
A grandson and a grandfather sleeping with the same woman?
Was it really that scandalous???
Mr. Zhu was shocked into silence. It took a long while before he remembered to protest: "Impossible! Xiaodie doesn't even know my grandson. How could she be his girlfriend?"
Mr. Zhu was seventy years old. Although he had harbored stray thoughts over the past few decades, his wife’s strict management meant he never had the courage to stray. It wasn't until he met Xiaodie three years ago—a woman who fit every fantasy of his first love—that his old heart finally couldn't hold back. It was his first time cheating in decades.
He thought he had found true love, only for Seren Thorne to tell him that this woman was not only after his money but was also his grandson’s girlfriend. How could he accept this?
Seren said unhurriedly, "Whether it's true or false, won't you know if you go check for yourself?
"Didn't your grandson tell you recently that he killed several people in a drunk-driving accident and needed tens of millions in compensation? In reality, that car accident was fabricated by him and your little mistress. Those people 'killed' in the crash were actually relatives of your mistress acting out a part. Otherwise, why do you think there was no police involvement in such a major case, and it didn't even make the news?"
Mr. Zhu’s body swayed; he nearly collapsed to the floor. He shouted something about it being a lie and impossible as he rushed out of the building.
The other directors hadn't had their fill of gossip yet. Seeing Mr. Zhu run off like that, they couldn't help but feel a bit regretful. Previously, when they invited Old Zhu to clubs, he would refuse with a self-righteous expression. Who would have thought he played so wildly in private? Not only was he cheating, but his partner was his grandson’s woman. Tsk.
Arthur Vane spoke to Seren with a hint of disapproval: "Why bother telling him his grandson harbors such evil intentions? A man like him, who is irresponsible toward his family, should be left to go bankrupt and become a pauper!"
Arthur was conservative to the bone. He always believed that once a man married, he should be responsible for his wife and children and remain loyal. A scumbag like Mr. Zhu was exactly the type he looked down on most. He was also quite strict in educating the younger generation, which was why the Vane children never messed around with complicated relationships like other elites in their circle.
Seren replied, "Mr. Zhu and his wife are a single unit. If he goes bankrupt, his wife’s life won't be easy either. By leaving some money on hand, even if the two of them divorce later, the elder Mrs. Zhu won't end up living too miserably."

And given Mrs. Zhu’s personality and methods, once the divorce went through and the money was in her hands, Mr. Zhu’s life would likely be very difficult.
Arthur hadn't considered this point. A look of appreciation flickered in his eyes as he looked at Seren. This girl’s way of thinking was quite thorough.
After finishing her chat with Arthur, Seren turned her attention back to the others. "Next. Who's first?"
Meeting Seren’s eyes—which seemed capable of seeing through everything—the three old men all took a step back with guilty consciences. Mr. Zhu only started acting out in his later years, but these three had been wild since they were young. Although they were now old and lacked the stamina, and those outside flings had long ended, there was still a lot of history. It wouldn't be good if it were all exposed. They still cared about their reputation.
Seeing them retreat, Arthur knew none of them were good eggs and looked at them with disdain.
Seren, however, looked as composed as ever. "Are we doing this or not? If not, the money is still due. After all, the condition for not paying was that my reading be inaccurate, not that you changed your minds."
They hesitated, but finally, Mr. Lee stepped forward. "I'll do it, but you must promise not to mention my romantic history."
"No problem. Sit down."
Once Seren agreed, Mr. Lee finally sat before her. "I want to know which stock will soar recently. Tell me, and I'll go buy in."
Seren said, "A company called Thousand Star Aviation is going public today. Within a month, the stock price will increase tenfold."
Mr. Lee was suspicious. "Are you sure it's accurate? I’ve sought out other masters before, and they all said they couldn't calculate such specific details because it would shorten their lifespan."
"Don't worry, it's guaranteed. If you lose money, come find me."
Seeing Seren so certain, Mr. Lee was truly tempted. After transferring two and a half million to her, he spent another million on Thousand Star Aviation stocks as a trial run. The other two also planned to keep a close eye on that stock later; if it really rose, they would enter the market early.
Mr. Lee had things to attend to at home, so after the reading, he greeted Arthur and left first.
The remaining two now had one hundred percent trust in Seren and also wanted her to calculate their financial fortunes. However, just as one was about to sit down, screams were heard from outside, sounding very chaotic.
Mr. Lin, who had just sat down before Seren, couldn't help but frown. "What are those people outside shouting for? Truly uncivilized."
Seren said flatly, "There's a car accident outside. It’s normal for people to shout."
Mr. Lin was confused. "You didn't even go out to look. How do you know it's a car accident?"

Seren replied, "Because the one in the accident is Mr. Lee. I just saw it in his face earlier."
Hearing this, Mr. Lin was instantly enraged. "How can you be so cold-hearted, girl? If you saw that Old Lee would be in an accident, why didn't you tell him in advance? This is a matter of life and death!"
Seren’s tone was lazy: "He sought wealth that wasn't meant for him in his fate; this is the interest Heaven is collecting back from him. He said it himself—other masters told him calculating such things would shorten one's lifespan. He chose to ask me to calculate it anyway; he can't blame anyone else."
Moreover, this old man had done many things like kidnapping women in his younger years; she had no sympathy for him.
Mr. Lin still felt Seren did it on purpose, but he didn't dare offend her, so he swallowed his reproaches. He had originally wanted Seren to help him get rich, but seeing Mr. Lee’s end, he didn't dare be greedy. He simply said, "Help me check Old Lee’s situation then. Will he be in danger from this accident?"
Seren: "He won't die. At most, he'll be a paraplegic with both legs paralyzed."
Mr. Lin felt Mr. Lee’s situation was quite tragic, but after a brief moment of pity, he felt a bit relieved. Fortunately, he wasn't the second person to seek a reading, otherwise, he definitely would have bought that stock, and then it would be him with paralyzed legs.
With Mr. Lee as a cautionary tale, the last person didn't dare ask for any good fortune. He simply let Seren calculate how many years he had left to live, paid the money, and hurriedly left with Mr. Lin.
After they left, Seren took Arthur Vane straight to the bank, wanting to transfer all the money in her account to his card.
Arthur was puzzled. "Why are you transferring all the money to me?"
Seren said, "I'm worried Alaric Vane will freeze my card. You're his grandfather; he shouldn't dare to restrict you."
Arthur: "..."
Acting tough while smiling through the pain: "Why don't you calculate why I suddenly became a pauper recently?"
