"The Movie Queen's Second Act" Chapter 13
"I am jealous of Julian. I am jealous that he had ten years with you. In front of him, I lost my self-control. I tried my best not to think about those things, but I couldn't. I'm going crazy. Tell me, what should I do?"
Jade stared blankly at Lucas for a long time before finally saying, "Lucas, you're crying."
Chapter 25
Lucas was stunned for a moment before instinctively wiping away his tears.
For some reason, Jade felt a sense of relief. She stepped forward and hugged him. "Thank you for telling me."
From the moment Lucas started dating her, she had never seen him cry.
As his confession once stated: "Even if you never love me for the rest of your life, I will still love you. This is my heart, my instinct—it’s not an investment, nor a transaction where I demand your love in exchange." Lucas never demanded anything from her.
Correspondingly, Jade would sometimes wonder: is a love without jealousy or possessiveness truly love?
Did Lucas really love her?
Or was she just like the countless luxury items in his home—something that wouldn't matter if it were given away because another luxury would eventually take its place?
The day she first met Lucas’s parents, his mother told her:
"Few people have dated Lucas for this long. I hope you can stay by his side a bit longer and become a part of our family."
Jade finally couldn't help but ask, "Is Lucas like this with everyone?"
Lucas’s mother looked at her deeply. "Yes. You are already an exception to him."
It was because of those words that Jade decided to date him.
Yet, a small voice in her heart always questioned—
If she were to leave one day, would Lucas try to make her stay?
Scalding tears fell onto Jade’s neck, and she finally felt certain that this relationship was not a solo performance.
Once Lucas’s emotions stabilized, Jade stroked his back and said, "I never thought about reconciling with him."
"I told him last night that after the police statement is finished, I will go to America with you to get married and settle down."
Lucas’s voice was somewhat hoarse. "What about the child?"
Jade sighed softly. "I looked after her only because I thought of the child I couldn't protect."
"Now that Selina is gone, she will have a better life. As for anything else, that is Julian’s responsibility, not mine."
After speaking, Jade stood on her tiptoes and placed a kiss on Lucas’s lips, looking at him earnestly.
"Lucas, you are my only love."
Those few words smoothed over all the insecurity in Lucas’s heart.
A more fervent kiss fell on Jade’s lips, and his large hands unfastened her dress.
"Vina, do you want children?"
"I just want you to know that even without children, I love you as I always have. But if children have become an obsession for you, we can adopt one."
Jade froze.
Lucas knew she couldn't get pregnant, but he rarely brought up the subject.
Over time, that obsession had faded.
She shook her head and wrapped her arms around his neck. "A child is the crystallization of love; I don't want to adopt."
"Even without a child, I know you love me."
A thousand words were poured into the actions of a passionate day.
The day they returned to America, the weather was beautiful.
Standing downstairs at the hotel, Jade felt Julian’s gaze from above, as scorching as the sun.
She didn't look back, taking Lucas’s hand as they stepped into a taxi.
She and Julian could only ever be the past.
Back home after putting away their luggage, Lucas took Jade’s hand and went to the best private clinic in the United States.
"Medical technology is always different after five years."
"No matter how much money or time it takes, I am willing to make up for your regrets."
The doctor adjusted his glasses and spent a long time looking at the diagnostic results.
Jade’s heart trembled, and she couldn't help asking, "Is the result very bad?"
The doctor shook his head. "No. You are already pregnant. Why are you here for an appointment?"
Both of them were stunned.
Walking out of the hospital, Jade still found it hard to believe. "I'm really pregnant?"
She tremblingly touched her lower abdomen; a surge of warmth there seemed to answer her question.
This time, she would finally be able to give birth to her own child.
Suddenly, warmth spread through her left hand.
Lucas looked at her with a smile. "Vina, we have our own child."
Jade tightened her grip on Lucas’s hand, her eyes welling with heat.
This time, she would definitely be happy with Lucas.
